In 2020, during the Covid pandemic, we made the decision to purchase a small farm in Forest Hill, Maryland. When we purchased the farm, the farm owners asked us if we wanted to take ownership of an elderly horse and his donkey companion. They worried that the move would be too difficult for the horse since he had only known this farm. We were thrilled. Andy the horse and Tazer the donkey were our first babies. Thus began our journey and love of farm animals.
Funny how people find you when you acquire land. Then came the FB message to rescue a young pig on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. So, we made the journey to the shore to rescue our first pig, Dewey. We had no clue of pigs and their social tendencies. We learned quickly and on the fly. From that point on the phone calls, text messages, emails and FB messages started coming with great fury.
A fainting goat, chickens, ducks, bunnies, mini horses, more pigs, more goats, donkeys. We quickly built pens and a chicken coop. We learned that fox can dig. Raccoons can climb. Hawks can swiftly swoop in. We followed Dr Pol. Every Saturday night we watched him heal, diagnose and save animals.
The cost of the animals started adding up. Feed, hay, shelter, equipment, veterinary bills. We wanted to continue to help but needed financial assistance. So the Duncan Family Farm Mobile Petting Zoo was born. This money aided in saving more animals and providing the care that was required.
We had many, MANY customers that loved our mission and what we stood for. Many wanted to donate and did contribute small amounts. Others told us that if we were a nonprofit and they could claim donations on their taxes, they would make sizeable donations. After a couple of years of thought, reviewing all the requirements, bills stacking up, discussions with family and financial advisor, we made the decision to move forward with the non profit status. Hence the GOOD SHEPHERD RESCUE,INC was developed.
We are excited and motivated to continue to share our sweet animals with those that would otherwise never have the opportunity to meet a farm animal.
Please follow us for updates and events to meet the animals or support us. If you would like to donate, click the DONATE button. We will send a tax donation letter for your records.
Thank you for your support and welcome to our journey.
